East Port Marina & Resort was established in 1965 by Buck & Bea Morton. The couple started out with 8 dock slips and a small fisherman's hut. They offered bait, tackle and some snacks. Eventually they expanded, adding 35 White Water Fishing Boats. East Port was at one time supported with a ferry to shuttle fisherman from Byrdstown, wanting to take advantage of fishing on the river. Ed & Peggy Stephens purchased the Dock in 1974, becoming the first to buy houseboats and rent to the public. They began adding cabin rentals and the hotel as well as a larger store offering souvenirs, warm food, gas, bait, and much more. Ed and Peggy own a home at the marina can still be seen around the docks telling stories “about the old days”. Clyde and Vickie Craig purchased the Marina in 1995. Moving to East Port with their 3 sons and daughter. They all worked together to create a family style atmosphere for the customers. They introduced log cabin getaways at East Port, having up to 23 log cabins in the rental program. Clyde and Vickie added a new restaurant in 2002….. Offering the famous “best cheeseburger on the lake”, as well as catfish dinners, country breakfasts and hand dipped ice cream. Richard and Wendy DeVries purchased the Marina in November of 2007. The family atmosphere continues as Richard’s brother Ross, his wife Ana, and their son Austin, have relocated to Dale Hollow Lake from Del Rio, Texas to assist taking East Port to the next level. Together, they have huge expectations and plan to build on the accomplishments of the past dock owners. Richard and Wendy own a home in Franklin, Tennessee where Wendy works as a Registered Nurse and their youngest son, Nathan, attends school. Tanner, their oldest son, is a student at the University of Tennessee with plans to enter medical school. The family loves ice hockey, with both boys growing up playing at different levels. During the summer being on the water in their boat is their idea of a perfect day! Ross and Ana DeVries have three children, two daughters currently attending college in Texas, and a son, Austin, who will be assisting at the marina when he is not in school. Ross spent the years prior to coming to the Marina managing a big game ranch outside of Del Rio, Texas. Hunters looking for the best white tail, elk and mountain goat visited the ranch year after year, knowing that Ross and Ana would make their vacation one to remember. Together, they look forward to bringing their expertise in customer service to the Marina. The DeVries’ goal for East Port Marina and Resort is very simple. Treat customers with respect and offer services and products at a fair price… So come by the marina for a vacation, or just a cup of coffee, and become part of the NEW East Port Family! |
